After a scenic 1-hour drive, we’ll begin our ascent to the Silvestri Crater, located at an altitude of about 6,000 feet. Mount Etna

Mount Etna, known to the ancient Greeks as the home of Hephaestus (or Vulcan to the Romans), rises nearly 11,000 feet above the surrounding countryside. After exploring Mount Etna, you’ll head back down the slopes and make your way to the charming town of Taormina, perched high above the Ionian Sea. Founded by the Greeks around the 8th century BC, Taormina is famous for its stunning coastal views and remarkable historical sites. One of the most notable attractions is the Greek Theatre, dating back to the 3rd century BC. Originally constructed by the Greeks and later expanded by the Romans, this ancient theatre offers breathtaking panoramic views of both the coastline and Mount Etna in the distance.

While in Taormina, you’ll also want to visit Palazzo Corvaja, a medieval mansion that blends Arab, Norman, and Gothic architectural styles. It now houses a museum dedicated to Sicilian arts and crafts, providing an enriching glimpse into the island’s fascinating history and culture.

If shopping and relaxation are more your pace, take a leisurely stroll down Corso Umberto, Taormina’s main street, lined with chic boutiques, cafes, and beautiful historic buildings. Here, you can explore vibrant shops or simply enjoy a coffee in one of the many charming cafes. Don’t forget to visit Piazza IX Aprile, the town’s main square, where you can relax and take in the stunning views of the sea and Mount Etna.
